Bhubaneswar(Special Opinion) Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Hon’ble Justice Shri Mohammad Rafiq has sworn as the new Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court today morning at Loka Seva Bhawan. Prof.Ganeshi Lal has administrated the oath to Justice Rafiq in the Convention hall at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. Justice Rafiq, who was previously serving as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, was transferred to Orissa High Court by President Ram Nath Kovind on recommendation of Supreme Court Collegium recently on April 18. Justice Rafiq was a law Student of Rajasthan University in 1980-83 and after completed LLB he enrolled as an Advocate in 1984 at the Bar Council of Rajasthan. Justice Rafiq was appointed as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court in last November 13, 2019.At Present Orissa High Court is functioning under Acting Chief Justice Sanju Panda since January 5, 2020 after Chief Justice K S Jhaveri retired from duty. Justice Mohammad Rafiq was born on 25th May 1960 in Sujangarh of Churu district in Rajasthan. He earned bachelor degree from Rajasthan University in 1980. Then, he continues to study Bachelor of Legislative Law (LLB) and got the LLB degree in 1984. He started his carrier as an advocate just after getting LLB degree, but he continued to study further and got the Master’s degree LL.M in 1986. Rafiq started his carrier as a government advocate in Rajasthan from 15th July 1986 and promoted to Deputy Government Advocate on 22 December 1987. In 2006, Rafiq appointed as a Judge of Rajasthan High Court, he has also served twice as an Acting Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court. Rafiq was appointed as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court on 13 November 2019. He was transferred from Meghalaya High Court to Orissa High Court as the 31st Chief Justice of Orissa High Court and took oath on 27 April 2020 today.
